Course Text:  Hoggatt and Shank.  Applied Computer Keyboarding.  Thomson South-Western Publishing Company. 

Supplementary Materials: Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, Applied MicroType 3.0 and MicroPace Pro 2.0 Software.

General Goals:  This course is designed to introduce the student to keyboarding fundamentals using Microsoft Word and presentation fundamentals using Microsoft PowerPoint.  Touch method of striking keys, proofreading, editing, language skills, and career exploration are emphasized.  Keyboarding correspondence, academic reports, and composition at the keyboard are main elements, as well as, using multimedia software to create a presentation.  A culminating project will be completed.

Evaluation: 

Technique:  Proper technique will be assessed periodically.  Instruction will be given on the touch method and students will be graded on their correct use thereof.

Daily Work:  Any work assigned must be completed in a timely manner.  All work must be completed in the classroom.

Timed Writings:  Once the keyboard is learned, timed writings will be taken frequently.  Students will be evaluated on 3-minute timed writings.  The scale will be set according to standard keyboarding speed and accuracy expectations.

Tests:  Tests will be both written and practical, and will be administered periodically throughout the semester.

Career Research Projects:  Two career research projects will be completed consisting of an MLA report and presentation.

Final Exam:  The semester exam will be administered in the classroom on the scheduled exam day.
