What
is the Keyboarding Proficiency Exam?
It is an exam that tests
the student's keyboarding skills.
How many
times per year is this test given?
We give the test once in the spring so that counselors have enough time to
alter schedules for those who pass.
What
does the student "get" by passing the exam?
The
student receives an exemption from the Keyboarding/Word Processing
course. They may then enroll in a more advanced course, i.e. Business Computer Applications.
Specifically,
what skills?
Staff will evaluate proper keyboarding technique (see below). If
this is satisfactory, the student will be allowed to take up to three 3-minute
timed writings. The speed
of 30 words per minute with 3 or fewer errors must be achieved.
What
is keyboarding "technique"?
Proper keyboarding
technique includes the following:
-
Keeping your eyes on the copy and
not the keyboard or monitor.
-
Keeping
your wrists raised slightly off the table or keyboard.
-
Proper
keystroking--are you using the correct finger for the key selected?
