Communication and Information Plan
Program Description:
Certified classroom teachers are eligible to receive a laptop for
professional communication, instruction, and information access--for use
at school and at home while they are employed by Warren THS
Laptop to include educational software package, such as MS Office
suite, HyperStudio, web browser, MS FrontPage 2000, Inspiration
Tied to training and other requirements
Rationale:
- Promote faculty communication with fellow educators, students,
parents, and administrators
- Provide access to information
- Foster faculty teaching and learning with technology by providing a
tool to use both at school and at home
Usage Requirements:
- Check, send, and respond to school-related email regularly
- Compute grades and produce grade reports electronically with
school-provided grading program
- Post course syllabi, calendars, and assignments on the Internet (See
ThinkWave.com for example)
- Develop, execute, and post at least one engaged learning activity
during the 2-year program (can be satisfied through BDIT training)
- Participate in Laptop Users Group (LUG) discussion of topics related
to teaching and learning with mobile technology
- Department-specific tasks, to be determined by each curriculum
leader
Training and Other Requirements:
- Participate in orientation session, to cover ethics, copyright, basic
usage and maintenance topics (credit will be available through Aurora U)
- Successful completion of 4 credit hours of currently offered BDIT/Aurora
U courses within 2-year period. Other courses can be substituted as
follows:
- TechKnowledgy or other pre-approved online courses
- NSLS courses
- Other courses in educational technology from accredited institutions
- Provide at least one in-service training session for fellow teachers
during the 2-year period
- Complete requested surveys and online profiles
- Laptop must be on the school premises during instructional times and
whenever requested by technical staff
