A Communications and Information Plan
for Warren Township High School

   

Faculty Communication and Information Plan

Program Description:

  • Certified classroom teachers are eligible to receive a laptop for professional communication, instruction, and information access--for use at school and at home while they are employed by Warren THS
  • Laptop to include educational software package, such as MS Office suite, HyperStudio, web browser, MS FrontPage 2000, Inspiration
  • Tied to training and other requirements

Rationale:

  • Promote faculty communication with fellow educators, students, parents, and administrators
  • Provide access to information
  • Foster faculty teaching and learning with technology by providing a tool to use both at school and at home

Usage Requirements:

  • Check, send, and respond to school-related email regularly
  • Compute grades and produce grade reports electronically with school-provided grading program
  • Post course syllabi, calendars, and assignments on the Internet (See ThinkWave.com for example)
  • Develop, execute, and post at least one engaged learning activity during the 2-year program (can be satisfied through BDIT training)
  • Participate in Laptop Users Group (LUG) discussion of topics related to teaching and learning with mobile technology
  • Department-specific tasks, to be determined by each curriculum leader

Training and Other Requirements:

  • Participate in orientation session, to cover ethics, copyright, basic usage and maintenance topics (credit will be available through Aurora U)
  • Successful completion of 4 credit hours of currently offered BDIT/Aurora U courses within 2-year period. Other courses can be substituted as follows:
  • TechKnowledgy or other pre-approved online courses
  • NSLS courses
  • Other courses in educational technology from accredited institutions
  • Provide at least one in-service training session for fellow teachers during the 2-year period
  • Complete requested surveys and online profiles
  • Laptop must be on the school premises during instructional times and whenever requested by technical staff
