for Warren Township High School

   

The following table provides a glimpse of the ways students learned with technology during the first semester this year in our 3 group instruction labs. Teachers can reserve these labs for varying lengths of time.

Trigonometry Trig Explorer CD: Interactive CD allows students to review/learn fundamental skills in trigonometry. It shows students where trig is used in science and the world - radio waves, TV waves, sound waves, Light & the color spectrum. Students learn advanced concepts such as period, amplitude, phase and vertical shifts. 2-3days/ semester 20-25
Economics Internet: SMG2000 - The Illinois Council on Economic Education (ICEE) coordinates the Stock Market Game for all school districts in Illinois. The mission is to increase the understanding of the American economy by teachers and students, enabling them to become more informed citizens, consumers, future employees and employers. Teacher training and curricular support is offered to participating teachers. The teachers attend a teacher workshop prior to the start of the game. Teams are 3-5 students/team. Teams are given $100,000 (play money) to buy, sell, and trade stocks on the open market. They compete against local and regional schools for a period of 10 weeks. Top teams receive cash awards and other winners receive T-shirts and recognition. 1day a week for 10 weeks 24
Foreign Language Research and HyperStudio project on a country. Includes a week in library, 2 1/2 weeks in lab, 2 weeks in class to present. Resources: CD's, Internet, books, periodicals, encyclopedias, travel brochures, etc. Research: History, culture, current events, maps, clothing, people, education, economics, etc. Info is presented in a 15-25 card HyperStudio stack. 2 1/2 wks. all combined-- over 100 students
Foreign Language Interactive CD (French & Spanish): Chapters in text correlate with CD. Vocabulary exercises, grammar, listening skills, dialog, spelling, video of culture, record voice and hear pronunciation. 2-3 times/ month all combined-- over 100 students
Yearbook, Scratchpaper, Creations PageMaker to create layouts for publications several days each week and many weekends 45-60
Geography HyperStudio project: (Research in library prior to lab time) Students plan a trip to Country of their choice. In addition to a timeline, cost of trip, airline preparations and other planning, students research the culture, money, language and geography of the country. 10-15 card stack is created based on research of Internet, CD's, encyclopedias, periodicals, books, travel brochures, etc. 2 1/2 weeks 22
Chemistry CD: Use of laptop in classroom. The CD links to Web where audio/video lab demos are projected on Dynacom. Students view these procedures prior to doing the same lab in their own classroom. Info on CD includes projected outcomes, actual lab and final results. several times/ month 96
Statistics Activ Stats CD ROM: accompanies text for AP Statistics & Intro to Statistics classes. Uses examples from video series we have. Interactive learning of concepts, interactive practice of concepts, analyze data (contains data disk statistical software), link to WWW - gather data - (resource to real world, relevant data to do statistical analysis of), automatically opens links to Web that are relevant to a particular concept. Activities include: videos, explanations, hands-on activities, exercises, data analysis, homework exercises using data disk software, projects which include links to WWW, data disk -statistical software. couple of times/ week two classes/ three classes

Algebra 1 Excel spreadsheets (projects build on pervious lessons included in Algebra Curriculum: Snoopy, Haunted House, Chilly Willy Ski Resort Spreadsheets; students learn how to format, create and insert formulas, gather data, make 'what if' situations, project costs of products 5 classes/2 days 5 classes/3 days 5 classes/2days (Bases on 30 /class) 450 Students
  ClarisWorks Data Base: Used to organize information for a rock band, performance schedules, location of activities, contact persons, travel arrangements, students are required to input information, retrieve information, format printouts. 5 classes/3 days 150 Students
Geometry Geometry's Sketch Pad, The Visual side of Geometry; 1. Informal Geometry: an introduction to angles and triangles, this year Mrs. Swanson also use the lab for part of her final exam using Skipped. 2. Global Studies Internet Projects/ESOne/sites that are relevant to specific historical periods: 1. Byzantine Empire Project created by Deb Brown: Class divided into groups of 5, research on the rise of Byzantine Empire, Cultural contributions, religion, influence and the fall of the Byzantine Empire. 2. World Tour '99 created by Kim Migasi: Students use the internet to research 12 wonders, 2 on each of 6 continents, while on tour the rock groups wants to spend 1 week in each city and see one highlight of each city/country. Poster Boards with descriptions of logical flight path, travel Cities, 1 page typed report on each city visited with all reverent facts on that city. 3. J. Jorgensen "News on the Net" 4. C. Science Honors Biology, Biology, 1. Internet research on genetic disorders; oral presentation of 5 - 8 minutes, will be done in class, some use of power point for presentations. 2. Internet Maco-ID Lesson: on line investigation into the Macroinvertebrates ID of Stream Life. 3. Chemistry: Internet and Interactive CD-ROM Research Project on The Elements of the Periodic Table. 4. ILD: Inspiration Introductions: Minerals a visual web on the relationship of minerals and products. 5. Honors Biology: Cyber Labs: Restriction Digestion/Gel Electrophoresis of DNA. 6.
