  • Gathering—Sign-ins, hand out article clippings
  • Members present:  Jean Ferrara, Mary Donnellan, Keith Halvorsen, Al Silverstein, Christopher Webb, Dominique Geocaris, Geoff Geltner, Jamie Kober, Jeff Knouse, Charles Martin, Dennis Nixon, Beryl Washington, Bill Chapin
  • The charge of the committee: Mr. Chapin reviewed the committee charge on the committee web site--http://www.wths.net/tac/ --and discussed the following basic work of the committee
    • 11-17-04, familiarity with tech programs
    • January meeting, review of data collected
    • March, review of goals for the plan
    • May, celebrate a plan that has passed
  • News
    • Joint Institute Feb. 7th, '05. The tech staff is planning training sessions for this event.
    • Presentation for IASBO--On Friday, Nov. 19th, Mr. Chapin, Mr. Parrott, and Mr. Maurer from Warren presented at the state IASBO conference in Chicago. Their PowerPoint is available at http://www.wths.net/edtech/iasbo.mht They will present at the March 3rd Illinois Technology Conference for Educators also.

  • Best Hopes Worst Fears for Technogy
    • That technology will help students now and after school
    • That WTHS will do right by students
    • Replace all the old equipment
    • More emphasis on role of technology in the learning process
    • Wireless laptops
    • One on one computing--no textbooks
    • Technology is in use
    • Positive administration
    • Spreading the use of software programs like A+ and Read 180 across the curriculum (75% of students using Read 180 have posted a gain. 30% have gained > 2 grade levels in their reading)
    • Global community
    • Most benefit out of investment
    • Technology in students' hands
    • Teachers knowing all the resources that we have
  • Review of our vision
    • The consensus was that we need to revise our vision
    • A special meeting will be planned for that purpose
  • Discussion of goals and general topics
    • Do computers impede learning? How it's used is what determines this?
    • United Streaming--film clips library
    • Discussion of Dynacom and how it's used
    • RFID--are schools ready for this technology? Attendance. Money in cafeteria. Key system. I-Pass.
    • Future essential is how we find information. Research.
    • Individualization--such as what is possible with MAP, Read 180, A+.
    • Web site. If it's worth doing, it's worth doing right.
    • Advanced Web Design II course as a source of working on the web.
    • Need for a database application for our web site.
  • Review of information collected to date (we didn't get to this)
