Minutes: 11-17-04 Technology Advisory Committee

Gathering—Sign-ins, hand out article clippings
Members present: Jean Ferrara, Varsha Kulkarni, Nick Salmons, Mary Donnellan, Keith Halvorsen, Al Silverstein, Christopher Webb, Chris Geocaris, Dominique Geocaris, Geoff Geltner, Jamie Kober, Jeff Knouse, Charles Martin, Dennis Nixon, Bill Chapin
The charge of the committee: Mr. Chapin reviewed the committee charge on the committee web site--http://www.wths.net/tac/ --and discussed the following basic work of the committee
- 11-17-04, familiarity with tech programs
- January meeting, review of data collected
- March, review of goals for the plan
- May, celebrate a plan that has passed

- Tech Team (T2) is a new group that has been started for students, in which they will help the tech staff do its work and participate in activities related to technology
- Joint Institute Feb. 7th, '05. The tech staff is planning training sessions for this event.
- Presentation for IASBO--On Friday, Nov. 19th, Mr. Chapin, Mr. Parrott, and Mr. Maurer from Warren will present at the state IASBO conference in Chicago. Their PowerPoint is available at http://www.wths.net/edtech/iasbo.mht
Spring, summer and fall '04 projects status report—Mr. Chapin updated participants on the following projects completed during the past months
- PowerSchool Upgrade
- School-Within-a-School and Read 180
- A+
- ID Card System
- 70 new classroom computers, 10 new office desktops, 60 new Business Ed desktops (Almond)
- Construction project (slides)
Scanning for trends –Attendees read snippets from articles about educational technology initiatives and then discussed a number of issues, including the following:
- Current technology needs in the school, such as LCD projectors
- Student technical skills and the degree to which all students get opportunities to develop these skills
Mr. Chapin reviewed the technology planning process: Plans have been developed in 1994, 1997, 2000, 2002, and now for 2005

Q & A: Opportunity for committee members from the community and business to ask school staff about current educational technology programs
Homework: Committee members were asked to continue the process of scanning news and events for trends that we should address in our tech plan and to review the technology plans from our past.
